Perfect Reading Snack!

If you like to snack while you read, you no doubt have a favorite go-to snack. For some, it may be ice cream, others, cookies, while other readers may much on an apple or an orange if they are truly health conscious. For this cozy mystery reader, the perfect reading snack is popcorn! Here are my reasons:

  1. It’s cheap! If you read a lot (and thus, snack a lot) you need an edible that won’t break your budget. Popcorn is that snack. Of course, you can buy popcorn with lots of frills and fancy ways to cook, but I like the old-fashioned popcorn popping. I just get a sack of the plain popcorn and pop a half-cup of the kernels in a brown paper bag and set it in the microwave oven. After the popping slows, I remove it, and add whatever extra ingredients I want (for me, just a little butter; for you, maybe some salt or pepper).

  2. It’s quick. You can have a full bag of popcorn in a few minutes! That’s quicker than what it would take to create a fancy ice cream sundae or maybe even open a bag of cookies and pour a glass of milk.

  3. It’s healthy. If you leave off the butter and salt, popcorn is a great source of fiber and low in calories.

  4. it’s tasty. Popcorn has a great crunch and is very satisfying. It is also very filling and just a third of a cup of kernels pops up a full paper bag full.

  5. It’s easy to eat. You can reach in and bring out the kernels and stick them in your mouth all the while reading away in your mystery. You can’t do that with an ice cream sundae which will just drip sauce all over your shirt if you don’t watch what you are doing. And—-if you drop a kernel of popcorn on yourself or the floor, it won’t cause a mess! Just pick it up and toss away!

So, there you have it! Popcorn is my ideal reading treat! If you have a better idea, let me know!
