Reading a Book Twice

Have you ever thought about reading a book a second time? It didn’t come to my attention until I saw the same book I read for another book club on the list of the book club I now attend.

I told myself I didn’t need to read it again because I remembered what it was all about. I was going to only look at my notes, but realized my mistake of not taking notes the first time I read it.

My experience reading it for the second time was different from the first time I read it.

The first time I read it, I didn’t know what to expect or what I was getting into. I was focused on reading it and understood some of the themes the author explored. I think I remember the book club discussion being in-depth and listening intently to what everyone had to say.

The second time I read it, I knew what to expect and what I was getting into. I was focused on reading between the lines and had a reaction that said, “Wow, seriously?” to the themes the author explored. In the book club discussion, there were themes that were mentioned that made me think about the book more.

If I hadn’t read the book a second time, I wouldn’t have noticed details I might have missed the first time I read it. In my second read, I saw the book in a new light.

When it comes to reading a book twice, make sure you take notes of things that stand out to you. It may come as a surprise how alert and aware you are when reading it, and you may notice details that you might have missed. Your experience reading it for the second time may be different from the first time you read it. You might even see it in a new light. Don’t be afraid to read a book twice, especially if it’s a good one!
